PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN?

The purpose of Presbyterian Women is to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study; to support the mission of the church worldwide; to work for justice and peace; and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church(USA) and witnesses the promise of God's Kingdom.

WHO ARE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN?

All women members of First Presbyterian can be part of Presbyterian Women. Our activities include monthly Circle meetings, fellowship, Bible study, and service projects. General meetings are also held throughout the year, including the August Prepare to Serve Meeting, the fall Christian Mission and Community Action Meeting and Luncheon, the spring PW Birthday Party and Officer Installation Meeting. During worship service in March, we award Honorary Life Memberships and remember those Presbyterian Women we have lost in the part year.

Circles meet at various times and places, making it easy to find a group compatible for your schedule. If you are interested in finding out more about Presbyterian Women at FPC or would like to join one of our many PW Circle Groups, please contact the church office at 318-222-0604. We will put you in touch with our Membership Chairman and she will be more than happy to help you find your place. All women are invited to join!

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE AND CONNECT

Members of Presbyterian Women serve both the church and the broader community through a variety of projects, with both hands-on opportunities and material support. PW collects items throughout the year benefiting local organizations. Circle members designate a portion of their offerings to be given to support programs of PC(USA) Presbyterian Women through their annual Thanksgiving and Birthday Offerings.

Sanctuary Flowers - PW members schedule the flowers given in memory and honor, used in worship each Sunday. Flowers are re-arranged following the service each Sunday and delivered to the sick, shut-in and bereaved, a duty shared with members of the diaconate. Circle members also take care of seasonal flower orders of lilies at Easter and poinsettias during Advent.

Christmas Decorating and Chrismons - PW members help place the creches, ribbons and other decorations around the church at the beginning of Advent. Throughout the year, Presbyterian Women also assemble the Chrismon kits used to create the symbolic ornaments for the Chrismon trees.

Wedding Committee and Receptions - A group of PW members works with brides to plan and oversee wedding ceremonies held in the church's chapel and sanctuary. Following a memorial service or funeral, Presbyterian Women set up and serve at receptions in the church dining room.

HOPE for the Homeless - Coffee, laundry detergent, towels, and toiletries are collected for this day-shelter. Circle members also provide supplies for sack suppers on the second Monday of each month.

Providence House - Small gifts for adult residents are collected and purchased each November.
