nh-becoming-member.jpg
First Presbyterian welcomes people of all ages and stages of life. Membership is open to all people who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. You can join the church in three ways:
  1. Profession of Faith and Baptism for people who have yet to be baptized.
  2. Reaffirmation of Faith – for people who are reconnecting to the faith and have already been baptized.
  3. Transfer of a Church Letter – for people who are active in another church and seeking a new church home.
When you are ready to join, you can fill out a membership card located in our pews or you may contact one of the pastors.

Worship

Worship is Central to Our Identity

All of us -- members, prospective members, and visitors -- are gathered from many into one body, the Church, to give thanks and praise to our living God. Worship informs all that we are and all that we do, and we are enriched by all who are led to participate with us.

Sunday Worship Service - 10:45am in the Sanctuary

Our 10:45am Sunday Worship Service is in the Sanctuary and can be attended in-person or you can view the livestreamed service online through our website by clicking where you see "WATCH LIVE" on our homepage, or you can view through our Facebook page by clicking HERE.

MODIFICATIONS FOR COVID-19:
As of August 5, 2021, the session affirmed the state of Louisiana’s mandate that masks will be worn in the church building at all times. Second, the session voted that during worship congregants will sit socially distanced (one pew of separation between themselves and others) and that there will be no congregational singing. We are encouraging all to get fully vaccinated as soon as you are eligible. These policies will be reviewed at the beginning of September. We know that the rapid rise of the delta variant in our state, as well as this change in worship is disheartening news. We had hoped that last winter would be the worst of the deadly virus, unfortunately we are not out of the woods yet. In spite of these difficulties, this congregation continues to show resilience, flexibility and most importantly, a commitment to Christ by being the church for all people. We have full faith that we will continue to grow in Christ even in these adverse circumstances. Take heart knowing that God continues to walk alongside us, supporting us especially during these challenging times.

The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. Children of all ages are always welcome in worship, where they can find age-specific Bibles and worship bags to help them engage in developmentally appropriate ways. Children are welcome to remain in worship.

Midday Prayer Worship Service - 12:00pm in the Chapel

We gather in the Chapel each Wednesday afternoon at 12:00pm for a short 30-minute prayer service led by one of the pastors. We know that the middle of the week is a busy time, and we offer this as a way to slow down and remember to lift up in prayer the specific needs of our community and our world. At each service, the names of members of the congregation are lifted up in prayers of joy, thanksgiving, healing, sympathy, or gratitude so that over time, every member will have been prayed for by name. In addition to spoken prayer, we also incorporate space for prayer through Scripture, song and silence. The service is open to in-person attendance with the same mask and social distancing requirements stated above.

Taize' Worship Service - 5:30pm in the Sanctuary

First Presbyterian Church offers evening prayers in the style of the Taize' community on the first Friday of every month, September-May at 5:30pm in the Sanctuary. This is a service of meditative song, prayer and scripture reading, marked by an extended time of silence for personal reflection and prayer. Congregational song is accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble. If you have never attended this service before, here is a sample of the music:  UBI CARITAS and JESUS REMEMBER ME. This service can be attended in-person and will also be livestreamed.

Special Worship Services

During the Advent season, we offer Advent Noonday Noels, a service of beautiful music offered by gifted artists from around the community.  These services are held on three Tuesdays at noon.

We begin the season of Lent with an evening service in the sanctuary on Ash Wednesday. During Holy Week, we offer a Wednesday prayer/foot washing service at noon, communion service on Maundy Thursday at 6:00pm, and a Tenebrae service on Good Friday at noon.
