First Presbyterian welcomes people of all ages and stages of life. Membership is open to all people who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. You can join the church in three ways:
  1. Profession of Faith and Baptism for people who have yet to be baptized.
  2. Reaffirmation of Faith – for people who are reconnecting to the faith and have already been baptized.
  3. Transfer of a Church Letter – for people who are active in another church and seeking a new church home.
When you are ready to join, you can fill out a membership card located in our pews or you may contact one of the pastors.

Ministry staff

Rev. Dr. Chris Currie

Pastor/Head of Staff

Chris Currie began his ministry here at First Presbyterian as pastor/head of staff in October 2013. Born in Scotland and raised in Texas, Chris attended Davidson College where he developed a love of learning and continued to pursue the life of faith at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. After graduation, he moved to Charlotte, taught high school history and attended Covenant Presbyterian Church. Chris attended Princeton Seminary and served for six years as the pastor of Calypso Presbyterian Church in Calypso, NC. In 2010, Chris and his family left Calypso for Edinburgh, Scotland, where Chris pursued a PhD in Theology at the University of Edinburgh, School of Divinity. While a full-time student, Chris continued in ministry by serving as a Church of Scotland chaplain at the local prison. He also served as a temporary minister at Greyfriars Kirk in central Edinburgh. Along with his wife Stephanie and their three children, Chris took advantage of the many opportunities for travel and exploration while living abroad, and the family is excited about new adventures and experiences in Louisiana, in and through the life at First Presbyterian Church. Through his ministry here in Shreveport, Chris looks forward to joining us in service to Jesus Christ, the most powerful force at work in our world, risen from the dead and on the loose, invading our lives and calling upon us to leave what we thought was everything behind to follow him.
