First Presbyterian welcomes people of all ages and stages of life. Membership is open to all people who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. You can join the church in three ways:
  1. Profession of Faith and Baptism for people who have yet to be baptized.
  2. Reaffirmation of Faith – for people who are reconnecting to the faith and have already been baptized.
  3. Transfer of a Church Letter – for people who are active in another church and seeking a new church home.
When you are ready to join, you can fill out a membership card located in our pews or you may contact one of the pastors.

Our Care for Our Neighbors

Committed to our call to service as disciples, First Presbyterian Church has long been active in mission in our local community, with special focus on the Highland neighborhood in Shreveport. Our purpose in mission is to respond to God’s love made manifest in Jesus Christ and to promote Christ’s continued work in the world. Transformed through service, members of the congregation contribute their time, their gifts, and their resources in support of a wide variety of ministries.

Local ministries include Volunteers for Youth Justice, Providence House, Noel Memorial UMC Food Pantry, Highland Center, Northwest Louisiana Food Bank, Mercy House, Evergreen Presbyterian Ministries, and The Fuller Center for Housing.

If you'd like to become involved in local outreach, please contact us. Or join the conversation, by subscribing to our Outreach blog, Musings, a place to consider thought-provoking writings, quotes, ideas and poetry on the Christian life in all its facets.

Every second and fifth Thursday of the month, we are the host church for the Highland Blessing Dinner. Volunteers are always welcome to assist with all aspects of this meal, served to the working poor of the Highland neighborhood. All ages are encouraged to volunteer as table hosts, servers or to wash table linens after the meals. This is a perfect opportunity for families. If you are interested in this ministry, please come to the Highland Center at 5:00pm for a brief orientation of the program and to help set up.

We partnered with the Fuller Center for Housing for a Blitz Build in the fall of 2015. If you would like to help in any way, please let us know by contacting the church office for details.

The First Presbyterian Community Outreach Center, housed within our own building, provides a front door presence for groups hosted by the church. Volunteers for Youth Justice currently makes their home at First Presbyterian.  VOLUNTEERS FOR YOUTH JUSTICE has been leading the way in providing dynamic, life-changing programs for abused, neglected and at risk children in Northwest Louisiana for over a quarter of a century.
