What does a Sunday at FPS look like? Most of us get nervous when we go somewhere new or different. We'd like to put your mind at ease before attending a worship service at First Presbyterian Church.

First Presbyterian welcomes people of all ages and stages of life. Membership is open to all people who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. You can join the church in three ways:
  1. Profession of Faith and Baptism for people who have yet to be baptized.
  2. Reaffirmation of Faith – for people who are reconnecting to the faith and have already been baptized.
  3. Transfer of a Church Letter – for people who are active in another church and seeking a new church home.
When you are ready to join, you can fill out a membership card located in our pews or you may contact one of the pastors.

Young adults

Growing our Faith

Young Adult Ministry

We seek to meet you wherever you are on life’s journey, and to promote connection as we discover together how to live as Christ’s faithful disciples. Young adults at First Presbyterian are a wide-ranging community. We are married or single, parents or are not, just beginning a new job or established in a fulfilling career, life-long church goers or just beginning to explore our faith, and everywhere in between. We gather regularly for study, worship, fellowship and service. We ask difficult questions, make connections between our faith and our world, support one another with prayer, and have fun together.

Fellowship Gatherings

We get together regularly to reconnect and enjoy being with one another. On a rotating basis we have gatherings, some with kids and others without. Gatherings have included cookouts, trivia nights, and getting together for events in the community.

Christmas Party

Each year in the midst of the hubbub of December, we gather to enjoy food and one another’s company. We collect donations for various mission partners in our local area.

Sunday School

We have two young adult classes offered during the church school hour on Sunday mornings at 9:45-10:45am.

Young Adults - For 20s and young 30s, this class is interested in exploring basics of Scripture, theology, and spirituality, while discussing together where those integrate with everyday life.

Sojourners - A combination of families and singles, married or divorced, with children or without, this group of 30 to 40-somethings engage discussion on a variety of subjects including current events, in-depth Scripture study, family issues of faith, and topics in theology.

Faith on Tap

We meet monthly for Faith on Tap, a discussion-based exploration of scripture and theology, on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm at a local restaurant. Topics are discussed openly within the group and speak to the intersection between everyday life and faith. To find out this month's restaurant location, please call the church office. Childcare is provided at the church during Faith on Tap beginning at 5:30pm with a reservation - please call 318-222-0604 if you need to reserve a space for your child(ren).

Young Women’s PW Circle

Our young women get together monthly for a time of fellowship, study and support. They meet in homes, and rotate discussion topics. More information on this group can be found under Presbyterian Women (Circle 6).

We are continually looking for ways to engage our faith through service with others. We collect donations to support local mission partners. Using our variety of gifts, we have participated in builds organized by the Fuller Center for Housing, and organized activities and outings for families at the Providence House, as well as children of the Volunteers of America Lighthouse Program.
