Seekers Class E-News

For the Week of November 9, 2008                  Published November 9, 2008

Our Current Study

This coming Sunday, November 16 Simone Hennessee will lead our class.  She will talk about “Poverty /Homelessness: Could we do better given the same circumstances.”

Meeting About the Capital Campaign

A church-wide dinner and program was at the church this past Wednesday to discuss the capital campaign.  Dr. Allen Walworth, our capital project consultant talked about the project and handed out questions that were answered during discussion at the tables.  Each table reported on how those at the table answered the questions.  This process helped us imagine the future about what was important to us about the project and what vision we have for he church 10 years from now.  Also, those attending answered a question about what ministries or facilities would be new or improved in 10 years.  From these answers the consultant and architect now plan to help us develop the scope of work to be done in order to meet our vision.

Specials About our Members and Other Events

Several of our class members and friends as listed below with health issues need your prayers:

Bill Giddens and Jacque were back in class again this Sunday.  Bill indicated that he was not having any further blood loss at this point and was feeling better.  It was good to have them back with us.

Paul Brown is waiting for the doctor to try out a device that provides hope for relief of the back pain.

Fran Hagaman said that her husband, Van, continues in hospice at the Glen.  If you visit at the Glen, she suggested that you tell his nurse you are visiting him and are from First Presbyterian Church.

Lee Morgan was in Houston the end of last week to visit his grandson, Everett, who is undergoing cancer treatment.  He said that Everett was out of the hospital and has a very good attitude about his situation.  His father, Leslie, has been taking him out to eat and to other places that he has been able to go.

Ed Blewer, Julia Blewer’s husband, was honored as the “2008 Samaritan of the Year” by the Samaritan Counseling Center on November 6 at their Award Banquet.

Please keep me posted on any news you want in the Seekers E-News.  Since I write it after church on Sunday, give me your news before early afternoon on Sunday.

When the Seekers Class was organized we wanted this class to provide fellowship, lasting relationships, care for each other, and communication, as well as having meaningful studies each week in our class.  This purpose is being fulfilled for the most part, and we can do this more fully by providing appropriate information that can be communicated in this weekly E-News.  Please let me know about anything of special interest that has happened to you or any of our class members that can be passed along via this E-News.  Our class members would really like to know your news.

Seekers Class Vision

The following vision was adopted several years ago when the Seekers Class was first organized:

“An environment for the encouragement of spiritual growth, nurturing, mission, fellowship, community, and leadership.”

A Christmas party will be planned for the Seekers Class.  Stay tuned for the place and the date.  We will also have a class project for Christmas.
